5. Complete the title handoff and remove your plates

After the car is picked up and processed, you’ll receive a tax receipt from Heritage for the Blind. For most vehicles, donors can claim up to $500 without extra IRS forms; for donations above $500, we provide the documentation needed for IRS Form 1098-C. While we can’t give tax advice, you can share this receipt with your tax professional to help claim your federal deduction.

Tight alleys, snowbanks, and tricky Minneapolis street access
Tip: Many Minneapolis homes rely on alleys or tight streets, especially in South and Northeast. Please tell us in advance if the car is behind the house, buried in snow, or on a narrow one-way. As a last resort, you can tow or drive it yourself to a cooperating auction or yard we designate in the Twin Cities, and we’ll still process it as a donation.
