How we started
Twin City Wheels was founded in the heart of Minneapolis, born from a simple yet powerful realization: many of our neighbors were eligible for vital assistance programs but weren’t enrolled. The founders, a group of passionate community advocates, spent countless hours researching benefits across the state, discovering that many families in areas like North Minneapolis and Phillips were missing out on crucial support, including SNAP and Energy Assistance.
Recognizing the need for funding to support this outreach, the team innovatively turned to vehicle donation as a sustainable funding mechanism. What started as a community-driven project quickly evolved into a robust program that has successfully connected residents with resources they need. Today, Twin City Wheels stands as a lifeline, ensuring that all Minneapolis residents have access to benefits and support systems that empower them to thrive.

Why this city
Minneapolis is a vibrant tapestry of cultures, neighborhoods, and needs. With pockets like the Phillips neighborhood and the Northside, many residents face barriers to accessing vital services. The demographic diversity here means that some groups are underrepresented in benefits enrollment, particularly among low-income families and individuals. Twin City Wheels focuses on bridging the gaps by harnessing local resources and community support, ensuring that no one is left behind.
